Here is a photo essay composed yesterday based on a 2 hour walk around the west end of pre-inauguration Washington DC 2021. If you look carefully at each photo you will see symbolic and interesting elements of this unusual place at an unusual time in American history -- miles of fences and heavy truck barriers, an apparent inauguration dress rehearsal just west of the White House barrier, boarded up buildings from GW University all the way past the World Bank to the White House. It was impossible to access the National Mall or Capitol Building. It is also interesting to look at the faces of the individuals in these pictures. (photos unfortunately are not in proper order.)
