Parkersburg, West Virginia on the Ohio River: Ghostly Legacy

Our Pioneer Journey continues. Settlements are rapidly expanding in the Ohio River valleys after the American Revolutionary War. After Marietta gets established, settlers and entrepreneurs drift downriver about 10 miles to Neals Landing stockade (quickly displaced by the town of Parkersburg, near Blennerhassett Island in the Ohio River. Large new homes and businesses facilitated trade from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico via the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Many of the former inhabitants now reside in the town's cemeteries including Riverview.
