Mary Jemison, captured at age 12 by Native Americans (and French enablers), lived for many years in the Genesee Valley of western New York State. Her own narrative describes the day of her capture and the killing and scalping of her family. Here is a history of the ravages of war and the struggle for reconciliation between settlers and the native inhabitants of the land settled in the eastern US before, during and after the American Revolution.
