Narrative

I appreciate universities, colleges, and ivory towers of learning –- freedom again, of the mind kind.

Should there be ivory towers? Of course there must be. The keepers of darker fortresses in the past donned the robes of armor to make battle and hoisted walls as barriers to physical intrusions and onslaught. Fortunately, however, the shadow side of human nature is counterbalanced by less lethal endeavor within hallowed halls called colleges (universities?).

While occasional false teaching can frustrate truth-finding, the human mind is generally more nimble than a sword or gun, or the bearers of them. Reasoning duels in schools leave only hurt feelings or chagrin, albeit triumph as well, but rarely directly leads to a termination of life itself.
